Member Spotlight - Angie Liming

Angie has been coming to Grind2Fit since 2017 and has been a dedicated and consistent member ever since.  She is always quick with a bright smile, a word of an encouragement or a listening ear for other members of the barn.  Most commonly seen dancing in the front right corner, she has been a steadfast cheerleader to those around her.  She always keeps a positive voice even when facing her own battles.  Her love and adoration for her family is very evident when talking to her but she has been happy to share that "Mama Bear" love to those around her in class.  While Angie might be content to let the spotlight shine on everyone else her own light shines brightly in the barn!  We are so proud of you, Angie, for all that you have accomplished and are thankful to have you as a part of the tribe!  It just wouldn't be the same without you!

Name:  Angie Liming aka MamaAng

1.)  Tell us a bit about yourself.

I have been married for just under 30 years, have 2 great kiddos, 2 amazing grandbabies who are the light of my life & 3 cats. I absolutely love to laugh & have fun!

2.)  Do you have any hobbies outside of Grind2Fit?

I love all kinds of music which is a plus coming to the barn. I enjoy spending time with family and being out in the sunshine!

3.)  How often do you usually come to Grind2fit?

I try to attend Grind2fit at least 3-4 times each week.

4.)  How long have you been coming to Grind2Fit?

I have been coming to Grind2fit for almost 2 years

5.)  How did you hear about the class?

I had a few cousins that were attending the classes and my daughter heard about it from a friend also. After a week of her nudging me, I decided to give it a try! (Best decision ever!!)

6.)  Why did you originally come?  What were you hoping to get out of the class?

I initially came out of curiosity. I love all genres of music and definitely needed to get in shape so I figured why not? This could be what I was looking for & needed.

7.)What are some of your motivating factors to workout?

Obviously one of the biggest factors was to lose some weight & get into better shape but now it's so much easier to play with my precious grandbabies and I'm building up my stamina with every single class! This class makes your journey so much easier than I ever thought it could be. We laugh & shake our booty so much that sometimes we forget that we're actually working out! I love that!

8.)  Do you remember what you thought about your first class?

I remember thinking back to that first class and how nervous I was! I made my daughter stand in the back corner with me because I was worried that I would make a fool of myself trying to do these routines & simply keep up. The anxiety melted away once I saw people of varying sizes, physical ability & rhythm!

9.)  What were some of your motivating factors to workout?

There are so many memories that I have from the barn that I couldn't pick just one as my favorite. However, our holiday classes/parties are definitely some fun times to remember!

10.)  What do you like about being a member of Grind2Fit

As a member, I would say that what I love about Grind2fit are the lifelong friendships that I've made. I could name a million things but the friendships made are definitely so precious to me.

11.)  Are there any goals you’ve achieved as a result of being part of Grind2Fit?  (Not just limited to scale!)

I have lost some weight and my body shape has changed for sure but I feel like I'm a better person due to this barn. I've been able to increase my stamina, completed my first Beast of the East, I can make it through songs requiring multiple sets of jumping jacks now!

12.)  What do you feel has been the hardest thing to overcome in your fitness journey?

I struggle with thyroid disease making weight loss more challenging as well as some knee issues. What makes Grind2fit perfect for myself and so many others is the fact that you aren't required to do things an exact way. The offering of high & low impact options is instrumental for people like me or anyone with any type of challenge.

13.)  What are you most proud of yourself for doing since you’ve been at Grind2Fit?

I can now make it through songs requiring lots of jumping jacks! I think I'm most proud of myself for never quitting...like all of us, life has thrown a few curveballs my way since I started coming to class. I may have had to take a step or two back but I never quit regardless of the obstacle & that makes me proud of myself!

14.)  What goals do you want to achieve this year?

My goals for this year are to continue building up my stamina, of course lose a few more pounds, nurture the friendships I've made at the barn & continue to make new friends!

15.)  What is your current favorite Grind2Fit routine?

This is a hard one simply because every routine is packed with so much fun & energy! If I had to choose, it would be a tie between "Introduction" and my unofficial anthem of "Taste"! :)

16.)  How has Grind2Fit changed you?

I have found out just how strong I am, not only physically but mentally. My tribe has forced me to believe in myself. They truly have been my biggest cheerleaders everyday.

17.)  Who would you say has been the most influential person or people to your fitness journey?

Another tough one only because it's multiple people who have influenced me. I am so inspired by the commitment of this tribe. From seeing the incredible weight loss to seeing that person who struggled for so long with doing something & finally nailing it, the inspiration is constantly around me. It pushes me & keeps me going when I don't feel like I can. There's always a kind word, a smiling face, a thumbs up to get me through. Most of the time the giver doesn't realize how important or needed that small act of kindness is needed in that moment.

18.)  What, if any, aspects of Grind2Fit set it apart from other workout programs?

To me it feels like being out in the club with 60 of your closest friends! We laugh at ourselves and have such a great time that you (sometimes) forget that you're actually doing a cardio workout! You're not just a number here, you matter! From your fellow tribe members all the way to the top with Scott & Amanda, you matter! Everyone is genuinely in your corner cheering you on regardless of what your goal is.

19.)  What words of advice or encouragement would you have for anyone thinking of coming to class?

DO IT!!! As with anything new in life, you might be nervous or self conscious at first but I'm telling you this is the best choice you will make! The moment you hit that door, you're greeted with smiling faces & caring hearts. You will find the friendships that you never knew you were missing out on or needed in your life!

20.)  Anything else you would like others to know about you or the barn?

I walked into that first class so out of shape, nervous & weighing 'roughly' 300 pounds...let's be honest, at that point I wasn't about to check out the scale. I was worried that I would make a fool out of myself & be the topic of conversation for a while to come so I hung out in the back by the door in case it was too much and I could dip out with nobody noticing. I couldn't have been more wrong!! Everyone is greeted so genuinely & made to feel so comfortable. Regardless of your physical shape, dance ability or stamina level--you are made to feel at home.
Looking to get in shape? Go to the barn!
Had a bad day? Go to the barn!
Need to work off some frustration? Go to the barn!
Want to find the friendships you didn't know you needed? Got to the barn!
This is it---the barn is calling you!
In the words of Redfoo...."This is my social club right here!"
